Until recently best selling compact SUV Subaru Forested was only available in petrol combination. As the time goes by and Diesel quality improvement in Australia is starting to gain traction, more and more car manufactures are starting to include Diesel in its model line up. In this case Subaru is now offering its Forester with 2.0L Turbo diesel. Although there is no automatic option just yet it delivers much improved fuel economy. On paper and in regards to kW it is less powerful then its petrol sibling, but it delivers 30Nm of torque above the turbo petrol and 171Nm above naturally aspirated 2.5L alternative. And it does so in relatively short rev range. Thanks to its almost immediate torque delivery it does not feel short-changed on kW basis delivering almost matchable, if not better, performance figure then non-turbo petrol.
With 6.3L/100km combined fuel economy, full 3 litres less than naturally aspirated petrol and 4.2 litres less than its bigger Turbo Petrol brother. With its standard 65 Litre fuel tank it will manage over 1000Km between refuels and that’s 400km on top of atmo 2.5 Litre, and almost 330km on turbo 2.5 litre petrol variants. Externally, apart from the minor bonnet scoop difference between the Petrol and Diesel versions nothing else notable has changed. Same goes for the interior. This 2.0L Diesel version is capable of producing 108kW of power with 350Nm of torque. This extra torque is also responsible for marginal increase in Towing capacity. Currently available, it’s offered in two different trims. Standard version Subaru Forested 2.0D selling for $35,990 and 2.0D Premium that adds sunroof and leather is selling for $39,990, excluding on roads.
