Renault has given its global following brief preview of its latest concept car DeZir, ahead of this year 2010 Paris International Motor show. The “Z” within the name is derived from Renault zero-emissions ideology.Powered by all electric motor with 24Kwh lithium-ion battery pack, also found in Nissan LEAF. Renault Electric synchronous motor is the same unit currently used in Renault production electric cars that has been tuned for more juice developing 110Kw of power with 226Nm of torque pushing the superlight 830kg DeZir to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds achieving top speed of 180km/h. Electric motor has been positioned in a mid-rear section for better overall weight distribution. Furthermore its shares its front double wishbone suspension set up with Megane Trophy. Kinetic Energy Recovery System currently used in Formula 1 cars is employed to regenerate battery power during breaking whilst providing additional power boost for the driver at the simple push of the button in the cockpit.
Renault claims approximate range of 150km on single charge. Battery can be recharged through a normal household power point in just 8 hours or through fast recharge facility using three-phase current recharging 80% of the power capacity in just 20 minutes. This latest concept car from Renault provides clear indication of Renault design vision for the future underlying the foundation for the future styling of Renault cars. According to Renault “The front-end design previews the new front-end identity that is poised to become a feature of all Renault models in the future”. At the end of the day lest just hope that this concept is quickly turned into reality.
