It is almost impossible to ignore, Hybrid revolution is growing stronger every day with manufactures from all corners of the World either developed or working towards recreating their own version of super-efficient hybrid cars. Call it a stepping stone towards new automotive era where cars will no longer be dependable on fossil fuels, or better known as petroleum products, powered by alternative propulsion system hooked up to none other than electricity.  Porsche is following suit developing its own version of Hybrid powered vehicles with superb fuel economy yet maintain its super car status like recently introduced Porsche 918 Spider. This time its SUV segment has gone under the knife. Its Porsche Cayenne S V8 and V8 twin Turbo versions provided SUV power craving owners with alternative SUV vehicle with sports car-like characteristics. Outperforming many five-door sedans due to its massive V8 power delivery matched by exceptional handling with ability to surprise many unsuspected drivers. Then again, it is a Porsche after all. Now comes the Hybrid version capable of providing simular experience but with Diesel like economy. Meet Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid powered by Audi Sourced DI (direct injection) supercharged 3.0L V6 engine mated to a 8 speed Tiptronic Automatic Transmission. This superb power plant is capable of delivering 244kW of power with 440Nm of torque aided by three-phase synchronous electric motor rated at 35kW.  Electric motor is slotted between the engine and the transmission powered by NiMH battery pack neatly stored at the rear of the vehicle where spare tire used takes its place. Capable of pure electric propulsion reaching maximum speeds of just under 140km/h with maximum distance of 2km under normal driving condition before the petrol takes over where the electric motor secondary roles of recharging the battery pack becomes its primary role. Assisting with battery recharge, Porsche regenerative braking system delivers small charge to the battery every time brakes are applied. Its Automatic transmission uses its top two gears as overdrive further reducing the overall engine speed resulting in lower fuel consumption during Hwy cruising. Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid is also fitted with stop/start automatic system that shuts down the engine while stationary at the traffic lights. All of this combined and Porsche is claiming sub 9.0L/100km fuel consumption with 20-percent CO2 reduction when compared to V8 alternative. Although slightly thirstier then its diesel sibling It’s also pretty quick of the line delivering 6.5 seconds to 100km/h figures that is full 1.4 seconds quicker than the Diesel and only 0.5 seconds slower than the V8 Cayenne S.
Priced at $159,900 it placed between Cayenne S V8 and bigger brother Cayenne twin Turbo V8.
