Mercedes drop top SLK range has welcomed the introduction of 3.0Litre 24V 170Kw V6 engine to its line up. Previously constituted of 3 variants, starting with supercharged 4 cylinder SLK200 followed by SLK 350 V6 commanding almost $30,000 extra to get into to more powerful version and ending with ballistic SLK55 AMG that only lucky few would have the pleasure driving out of the showroom. This latest introduction reduced the power gap between its 125Kw SLK 200 and 225Kw SLK 350. It will also introduce more reasonably yet powerful version into its line up priced just under $100,000. Mated to 7 speed automatic with paddleshifter it delivers reasonable performance figures with 0-100km/h in just over 6 seconds without penalising its fuel consumption of just 9.1l/100km. Similarly styled to its bigger SL sibling it offers plenty of muscularity with added AMG 18” wheels and body kit. Fitted with heated electric leather seats, voice recognition, satellite navigation, CD – DVD radio player with USB, iPod and MP3 compatibility, duel zone climate control, rain sensor and electric soft top it’s packed with features as any Mercedes should.
Not to be outdone from safety point of view you can expect nothing less than 4 airbags, ABS with Brake Assist and EBD, VSC with Traction Control, auto pop-up anti-roll bar and Seatbelts pretensioners with load limiters all contributing to a high level of protection to its occupants. This is the latest inclusion prior to the release of all new SLK line up scheduled to arrive Down Under in early 2011. Providing that you cannot wait for the newer version this SLK300 has plenty to offer guaranteeing long term relationship with respective owners.
