Jaguar decision to enlarge older 2.7 litre V6 diesel to 3.0 litre Twin Turbo Diesel in its XF S model should make many other diesel alternatives tremble at their knees.
Jaguar XF S new bigger power plant AJ-V6D Gen III with its parallel sequential twin turbo develops whopping 600Nm of torque and 202kW of power shifting the 1820kg XF S 3.0 litre Turbo Diesel to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. Not bad for a diesel considering that other European models need to look for petrol powered variants to match or better such athletic performance. Jaguar also does this in style. With its superb exterior styling matched by well equipped and classy interior its sure to answer any criticism. Jaguar decision for introducing XF S 3.0 litre twin turbo version was to maintain its competitiveness with recently introduced BMW 535i. And considering that BMW 535i inline six turbo runs on premium unleaded its only marginally quicker then Jaguar XF S shedding only 0.4s from Jaguar astonishing figure. BMW is also thirstier, consuming 13.5l of fuel for every 100km when compared to Jaguar 10.1l/100km. Jaguar claims they achieved better fuel economy by introducing new common rail fuel system with slightly different approach to its twin turbo technology where the smaller turbo is isolated from exhaust gasses until needed resulting in lower consumption with less CO2.
Jaguar XF S twin turbo Diesel pushes its authority through a six speed automatic transmission with steering mounted paddle shift. Its here where Jaguar suffers slightly when pushed against competition. Few years ago 6 speed automatics were regarded as elite. However, when compared to BMW 535i 8 speed or Mercedes Benz E 350 7 speed autos its nothing to be bragging about. Ignoring the numbers, Jaguar ability to shift through the gears in rapid yet smooth fashion makes such difference almost irrelevant.
Interior high level of detail, quality finish and selection of materials make Jaguar feel more upmarket to anything else within this category.  Even less expensive model feels complete without the need of often very expensive optional extras to achieve similar results required in other European offerings.
Buyers can opt for Bi-Xenon headlights, heated steering wheel, radar assisted cruise control and stereo upgrade.
Standard safety equipment includes front side and curtain airbags, stability control, TC, ABS, EBD, BA and Anti-whiplash front head restraints.
Priced from $116,500 which is slightly more expensive then the model it replaces its still very affordable considering what it has on offer.
