There are two new Honda Accord models currently available in Oz. One manufactured in Japan while the other originating from Honda Thailand facility. Both are stylishly designed throughout, offering reasonable level of standard equipment. Japanese version resembles some isogonic line from its predecessor with more aggressive and sportier styling whilst Thai version is all new design. Japanese version referred to as Honda Accord Euro VTi is fitted with DOHC i-VTEC 2.4 litre 4 cylinder engine mated to 5 speed auto transmission with steering mounted puddle shifter. Thai build example is fitted with SOHC i-VTEC 3.5 litre V6 engine with 5 speed automatic gearbox.
Four potter from Honda Accord Euro develops reasonable 135kW of power with 225Nm whilst Thai Honda Accord Luxury V6 is rated at 206Kw and 340Nm. Both automatic transmission feature Grade Logic Control for faster, smoother changes that further improves performance and fuel economy. Honda Accord Euro reasonable combined fuel economy of 8.5l/100km is one of the best in its category whilst Luxury V6 model fuel consumption is further improved with the variable cylinder management that shuts down or activates two of its six cylinders as required dependable on driving conditions with respectable combined fuel economy of 10.0l/100km. Both of the models superb driving dynamics especially on more demanding twisty roads where its revolutionary double wishbone front suspension with multilink rear setup supported by front and rear stabilisers start to really shine providing great level of driver confidence that has been Honda’s legacy for many years. Interior in both models received equal level of refinement with added luxury. Standard inclusions in both models such as heated front seats, satellite navigation in Luxury, reversing camera and duel zone climate controls usually attract additional charges when considering alternatives. But that’s not all. Honda Accord Luxury introduced active noise control further reduces cabins noise levels as part of its innovative approach. Passenger safety has also been high on the agenda for Honda Accord Euro and Accord Luxury where both variant have been fitted with active head restrains for front occupants, front, side and curtain airbags, front seat belts with pre-tensioners, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability with traction control and side impact protection. Entertainment management is the responsibility of 6 speaker 6-CD player with MP3 and WMA capability. Rear entertainment DVD unit can be optioned across the range further improving the driving pleasure of rear occupants, especially during longer trips. Overly it’s difficult to conclude which variant performs better considering the high level of detail and refinement of both Honda Accord Luxury and Honda Accord Euro supported by distinctive styling as both cars looks and perform brilliantly. At the end it comes down to individualism of prospective buyers choosing the model that suits them best and that’s where Honda has delivered again, offering multiple choices within this category.
