Holden continues to perform exceptionally well with its Holden Commodore. YTD sale of 26,900 units is an increase of 19.5% for 2010. For the month of July Holden moved 3,800 units from its showroom which is an increase of almost 4% when compared to previous month. This suggest that recent introduction of modern engines with fuel saving technologies across the entire range is helping Holden achieving better results. Australia is not ready to farewell its large vehicle segment. With further improvements to reduce fuel consumption inline with introduction of hybrid technology and Diesel engines to its line up Holden Commodore will continue to be most popular single selling vehicle for many years to come.

Some other manufacturers like Jaguar is following simular path by replacing its components with light weight alternatives wherever it can resulting in improved fuel consumptions without penalising the performance. In our view, complete shift to smaller more efficient vehicles is not the absolute solution to maintain competitiveness. Research suggests that Australian still enjoy their large cars but is concerned with the running cost. On top of that, almost consistent bombardment from media trying to alter everyday Aussies thinking when it comes to the purchase of new vehicles continues to fuel the downward swirl of large vehicle sales. Our view is simple, Holden will continue to attract many buyers as long as it stays innovative, further reducing the overall fuel consumption of its bestselling vehicle.
