Ford Falcon future at stake; Ford Falcon long history made this car an Australian Icon dominating our roads for more than 50 years. However, after the last financial crisis and the overhaul of automotive industry in the US is signaling the end of independent build and design of vehicles for different parts of the Globe. It’s possible that locally designed and built next generation Falcon will be based on the Ford Taurus, front wheel drive V6 model. Ford is yet to confirm if the Falcon will follow Ford Taurus drive configuration or if the Falcon will maintain its rear wheel drive set up. However, Australian public will have to wait for at least until early next year before a decision is made. It is unlikely for the current model to be affected by future plans until at least 2014 when it is due to be replaced by all next generation models.
Current Ford Taurus is also offered in EcoBoost V6 twin turbo with direct injection version catapulting the vehicle from 0-100km/hr in just 5 seconds. On top of that it has been provided with some safety and luxury innovative features like blind spot warning system or BLIS that lights up warning signals in the side view mirrors when another car is in the blind spot of the vehicle.
We can only be hopeful that Australian Ford Engineers are given the opportunity to be fully involved in the next generation Falcon project regardless of the circumstances to continue providing vehicles that have been designed for our roads.
