No other place like Australia offers utility vehicles with such a high degree of choices that is sure to satisfy just about any driver. Regardless of real purpose this vehicles will easily take care of every day trady’s needs or alternatively can substitute normal sedans with highly optioned unique luxury utility vehicles for those odd occasions where only utility would be the right choice. One such example is locally build FG Ford Falcon Ute. In its base form it is a true workhorse. Even at the basic level there are number of options. It can be optimised with a factory fitted aluminium tray with 1-tonne loading capacity or with Style Side Box fitted with fully integrated plastic liner adding further protection against everyday wear. Ford Falcon utility interior is based on normal FG Falcon sedan expecting car like experience in the driver seat. This also ensures that utility buyers will not be short-changed on standard inclusions as the utility benefits from the same list of goodies that are found in the sedan. This is where most of the utility purpose build alternatives suffer. On top of the long standard list satellite navigation, full leather trim, choice of different size alloys, premium sound with iPod connectivity and duel zone climate control can be added to the list. There is a slightly less powerful full time LPG model delivering 156kW and 371Nm only available with 4 speed auto. Falcon XR6 and XR8 models can be optioned with class leading ZF 6 speed auto. Performance and fuel economy of NA model is considered exceptional with 7.2 seconds 0-100km and Hwy/City combined fuel consumption of 9.9l/100km. However, step into the XR6 Turbo and sudden rush of fear will fill the cabin atmosphere after the first run for those that never had the experience of driving this monster. Just recently a sub 5 second car has been considered to be a super car where Falcon Ute XR6 Turbo will deliver 5.1 second from 0-100 only 0.1 second short of reaching such attribute. Returning 12.5l/100km is considered high but you will have to look for V8 versions from alternatives to match the level of performance only to be penalised with astronomical fuel consumption. From safety point of view the Falcon Ute is fitted with dual front airbags, side airbags are part of optional pack that is highly recommended, dynamic stability control with EBA, ABS with EBD and traction control. Priced from $31K for entry level to 42.2K will get you into the driver seat of top of the line XR6 Turbo. So regardless if you are looking for work Ute used only for normal day to day trady’s duties or want to stand out then Ford Falcon Utility range has it covered. Definitely worth a look.
