Most of car manufacturers are recognising that future progression is highly dependable on their adaptation ability to produce or include environmentally friendly alternative within their model line-up. Increasingly evident, especially within European luxury segment, is the inclusion of smaller alternatives, such as BMW 1, Audi 2 or Volkswagen Polo. Not to be outdone, Aston Martin is about to release its own version of small luxury car alternative called Cygnet. Featuring Aston Martin signature front-end treatment and redesigned rear end with attractive LED taillight design followed through by luxurious interior appointment the entire car design is based on Toyota iQ. Why bother? Well, apparently in Europe carbon footprint is measured across the entire range of vehicles produced by single manufacturer and therefore including far more fuel-efficient small car alternative in its line-up will result in in overall reduction in carbon footprint average helping to comply with strict regulations.
But don’t expect this car to be anything but the car on which it is based on. For starters, price is likely to be a reflection on its name suggesting that this car will compete in the small luxury car market. Also, and whilst deleting any Toyota design similarities, new owners can expect high level of detail supported by the use of high quality materials, up to Aston Martin standards. It’s also likely to be more performance oriented. Build in Europe, and scheduled for its official release in 2011, Australian distribution is yet to be confirmed.
